We were privileged to have Kevin (Kevin.Williams@nrc.gov) and Kirk (Kirk.Foggie@nrc.gov) on Monday 27th, from 11-12:15pm to talk to us about the US NRC (The National Regulatory Commission) and what role they played in the recovery effort in Japan.

We would like to publicly thank the guys for the time they took to present to the HU MSEIP 2011 participants. Their information on national preparedness and their perspective on pursuing excellence in things that the participants are passionate about, were well received.
One student, Alexis Holmes, actually completed her essay about the presentation, and I shared it with the guests; quote:

Within the NRC, employees like Kevin, develop policies, regulations, and guidance for currently licensed power plants, research and test reactors, decommissioning reactors, and fuel facilities. Employees also interface with federal agencies, state, local, and also tribal governmental organizations. Such work objectives require significant knowledge in both the sciences and engineering.

Kevin responded:

Thank you for having us.  It was our pleasure to come and speak.  I found the students to be engaging, information seekers, and generally interested in the presentation.  I liked the essay that was written by Ms. Holmes.

Thanks again for the opportunity,

Kevin

In attendance were the 29 participants, Dr. Warner (Engrg 101 professor), Jason (program assistant), Michelle (Chaperon), Atiba (TA and the person who made the contact with nrc) and our two guests.

Our participants are encouraged to connect and network with these gentlemen and if interested, follow up on the internship and other opportunities discussed.
